Tasting Notes: Dried Cranberries / Assam Tea / Lemon Zest
This coffee comes from Rwamatamu, a family-owned coffee producer founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Rutaganda Gaston and Mukantwaza Laeticia in Rwanda's Southern Province. Alongside producing exceptional coffee, Rwamatamu is deeply committed to supporting the local community through projects that empower women and encourage younger generations to build a future in coffee farming.
Named Kibaya, meaning "Valley" in Kinyarwanda, this coffee is processed at Rwamatamu's Mbare washing station. Carefully selected cherries are hand sorted before undergoing a traditional washed process, fermenting for up to 48 hours before being slowly dried on raised beds for over three weeks. This meticulous approach preserves the clarity and elegance that make Rwandan coffees so distinctive.
In the cup, expect sweet dried cranberries, delicate Assam tea notes and vibrant lemon zest. The lively citrus lifts the cup beautifully, while the tea-like character and gentle sweetness create a coffee that is refined, balanced and wonderfully moreish.
Elegant and understated, this is a coffee that rewards slow drinking, showcasing everything we love about washed Rwandan coffees: clarity, complexity and effortless drinkability.
