We’ve been working with Gladys for several years now, and after visiting her farm in southern Ecuador, we gained an even deeper appreciation for her work. Her coffees are always a highlight — this lot is floral and silky, with notes of juicy plum, 85% dark chocolate, and the deep sweetness of medjoul dates. Bold yet balanced, it’s a layered and satisfying cup that speaks to the care she puts into every harvest.

Description

Our journey with Gladys’s coffee began a few years ago, and a couple summers back we had the chance to visit her farm for the first time. Set in the wild, lush landscape of southern Ecuador, her farm is full of life: flowering coffee trees, vibrant fruit, and native forest. Being there gave us a deeper understanding of just how much care goes into each harvest.

Gladys welcomed us warmly, and we quickly saw the dedication and pride she brings to her work. After a walk through her farm, we were invited into her home, where we shared ripe papaya and tasted honey she produces on the farm. Floral, silky, and sweet, it reminded us of her coffee. Every part of her land contributes to the unique flavour in the cup.

This year’s harvest continues to impress. The cup opens with juicy plum and rich 85% chocolate, rounded out by the deep sweetness of medjoul dates. There’s a gentle floral lift in the background, adding elegance to a bold and comforting profile. It’s a beautifully balanced brew, satisfying and layered.

She’s also a key member of APECAEL, a local association of coffee growers committed to organic practices. While they don’t carry official certification due to the cost, they produce their own organic fertilisers and work in harmony with the land. Our visit included a cupping at APECAEL’s headquarters, where Gladys’s lot once again stood out. It was a proud moment, reinforcing her consistency and talent.

As always, we owe a big thank you to Andre from Makicuna, who guided us through Ecuador and made this connection possible. We’re proud to share this coffee again and to keep supporting Gladys and her work season after season.
