More about Luz Helena Salazar

On our recent trip to Colombia, we had the privilege of selecting four unique coffees to bring back to our customers, including the remarkable Caturra Coffee from Luz Helena Salazar. Grown in Armenia, Quindio, on her farm La Leona, this coffee showcases the meticulous care and passion Luz Helena invests in her farm.

Luz Helena, part of the family behind Cofinet, has been perfecting her coffee for over 20 years. With a keen focus on quality, cherries are harvested at peak ripeness, floated, and hand-sorted to remove defects. They then undergo a 30-hour underwater fermentation before pulping, followed by gentle washing and temperature-controlled drying. This detailed process ensures each bean reaches the ideal moisture content, preserving its unique flavours.

This 100% Caturra lot, a natural mutation of Red Bourbon known for its resilience and productivity, is grown at altitudes of 1500 – 1600 meters.

The coffee presents a smooth and easy to drink cup profile with notes of citrus, stone fruits and white chocolate, reflecting the rich biodiversity of its origin.

Luz Helena’s journey into coffee, inspired by her family’s deep involvement in the industry, has led to a focus on specialty coffee production. With the support of Cofinet, she continues to refine her practices, aiming to produce the best cherries possible. Her efforts extend beyond coffee; she’s actively involved in her community and enjoys connecting with friends and supporting local initiatives.
